A: Anyone! We welcome requests from teachers, counselors, afterschool groups, parents, and students.

A: Generally, the books will be delivered or mailed to the designated school with attention to the person who made the request. Home schooled students will be contacted separately to coordinate delivery.

Q: When will I receive the books?

ENTRY SUBMISSION

Q: What format do I submit essay entries in?
A: Essays need to be submitted as a Microsoft Word document (DOC). If we are unable to open the document, the entry will be disqualified.

Q: What format do I submit multimedia entries in?
A: It depends on the type of entry:

  • Drawings, posters, paintings, and other 2D submissions can be submitted as a PDF, JPG, or PNG file. If we are unable to open the document, the entry will be disqualified.
  • Videos can be uploaded to YouTube and the link will be submitted. Please make sure the link is set to “private.”
  • Sculptures, 3D prints, and other 3D submissions will be first submitted as a photo PDF, JPG, PNG, or video link. Then the submission must be mailed or dropped off during business hours to:
    Representative Mark Nakashima
    Hawaii State Capitol
    415 S. Beretania Street Room 404
    Honolulu, HI 96813

Please include a removable tag on the entry with the student’s name, but the name should not be a part of the entry itself (e.g. do not carve the name into a sculpture).

Visit the Official Contest Rules for more information.

Q: Can I check to make sure my entry was received?
A: Email HawaiiNext50@gmail.com to inquire about an entry submission. Including the name, school, and time of submission will help us to locate the entry. Compilation is done by volunteers who may not be able to immediately respond, but every effort will be made to check on your request.

Q: I made a mistake and need to resubmit my entry. Is this OK?
A: If you are resubmitting an entry, please email HawaiiNext50@gmail.com to alert us about the double submission. This will help volunteers ensure the right entry is included in judging. If no contact is made, we cannot guarantee that the correct entry is judged.

WINNERS

Q: When will the winners be announced?
A: Winners will be contacted directly in March 2018.
